Dizzy’s Club sets the tone for the most romantic day of the year with a Valentine’s Day celebration inclusive of love and live music. On the heels of Blue Engine Records’ banner 2019─which included six album releases and a GRAMMY® Award-nomination for Una Noche con Rubén Blades─Jazz at Lincoln Center’s in-house recording label proudly announces plans to release four new albums featuring the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis in January and February of 2020. These releases include The Music of Wayne Shorter, which finds tenor saxophone titan Wayne Shorter performing some of his most beloved compositions alongside the JLCO and will be available digitally and on CD January 31.

Additionally, Grammy Award-nominated jazz pianist and vocalist Freddy Cole returns to Dizzy’s Club with the Freddy Cole Legacy Band to perform Songs for Lovers (February 14-17).

Jazz at Lincoln Center announces an extensive range of free (and almost free) concerts and educational events for all ages, including Hot Seat tickets, free pre-concert discussions, family concerts, student tickets and Late Night Sessions at Dizzy’s Club throughout Spring 2020. From January 30─February 1, 2020 at 8 p.m. in Rose Theater, Jazz at Lincoln Center will present the world premiere one of its most unique concert events to date: the groundbreaking new work Transformation with Glenn Close and Ted Nash.

On January 10 & 11, at 8:00 p.m., in a special concert event entitled Spiritual Sounds and The Jazz Age, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis will revisit two of its most acclaimed originals: Victor Goines’ “Untamed Elegance” and Chris Crenshaw’s “God’s Trombones.” Each of these suites highlights the ensemble’s boundless creativity, commitment to artistic vision, and the peerless musical range of its individual members.

Dizzy’s Club ushers in the new year with a stellar lineup featuring jazz veterans and up-and-coming musicians. Highlights include JLCO Saxophonist Walter Blanding and his quartet (January 17-19); Darius, Chris, and Dan Brubeck’s kick-off to Dave Brubeck’s centennial year (January 12); the Brianna Thomas Band(January 9-10); the Benny Green Trio(January 23-26); and Willie Jones III’s tribute to late pianist Larry Willis (January 22). Grammy Award-nominated Christian Sands returns to the club with his trio (January 14), and rising stars Ashley Pezzotti (January 6), Russell Hall (January 11) and Isaiah J. For two nights, on December 13 & 14, at 7:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., the Grammy Award–winning Adonis Rose & the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra will bring its unique blend of sonic power, stylistic versatility, and New Orleans emphasis on groove to Jazz at Lincoln Center’s The Appel Room stage. Jazz at Lincoln Center is proud to announce the launch of its inaugural Jack Rudin Jazz Championship, a two-day invitational competition featuring ensembles from ten of the most well-regarded university jazz programs in the country. The inaugural Jack Rudin Jazz Championship will take place on January 18 ─19, 2020 throughout Frederick P. Rose Hall, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center. This season marks the 25th anniversary of Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Program, the organization’s premier education program designed for high school students, and jazz educators. Since 1995, through the Essentially Ellington program, Jazz at Lincoln Center has provided big band charts featuring the music of Duke Ellington and other jazz luminaries, teaching guides, expert feedback, and other resources, free of charge to 647,000 students around the world.

Today, Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Blue Engine Records releases Jazz for Kids, a new digital album from the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis. In the Orchestra’s masterful hands,the simplicity and familiarity of childhood favorites like “Old MacDonald” and “Itsy Bitsy Spider” afford a world of musical possibilities for audiences young and old.

On December 13–14 at 8:00 p.m., renowned blues-rock guitarist, multi-platinum-selling singer/songwriter, and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Steve Miller will return to Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Rose Theater to continue his exploration of the blues. For this concert season, Miller takes audiences on a thrilling journey of Cannonball Adderley and the Blues.

Jazz at Lincoln Center fills its halls with the sounds of the holidays every December. In addition to the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra’s long-running Big Band Holidays tradition in Rose Theater, the Dizzy’s Club holiday lineup includes Ted Rosenthal Trio: Winter Wonderland (December 16); Etienne Charles: Creole Christmas (December 17); Duchess (December 18) and Riley’s Red Hot Holidays (December 19–20). The legendary NEA Jazz piano master Barry Harris celebrates his 90th birthday from December 21-24 and the Carlos Henriquez Nonet returns from December 26-31. After ringing in 2019 with sold-out sets, Henriquez will usher in 2020 with special New Year’s Eve sets, complete with a prix fixe menu and party favors.

On November 21-23, at 8:00 p.m., Jazz at Lincoln Center, in collaboration with Lincoln Center’s White Light Festival, reprises The Abyssinian Mass by award-winning composer and trumpeter Wynton Marsalis, in Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Rose Theater.

Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Blue Engine Records celebrates the most wonderful time of the year with the release of Big Band Holidays II, a sequel to a beloved and festive album released in 2015 and performed live by the world-renowned Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis.

For two nights only, Jazz at Lincoln Center presents the first-ever collaboration between two legendary jazz pianists, Chucho Valdés and Chick Corea.

Notable performances in Dizzy’s Club in the month of November include the album release celebration of Remembering U by NEA Jazz Master Jimmy Cobb and his trio (November 25); JLCO baritone saxophonist Paul Nedzela and his quartet (November 5–6); a tribute to Billy Higgins by drummer Willie Jones III (November 14–17); vocalist Paula West with her incredible band, which includes guitarist Russell Malone (November 22–24); and drummer Jerome Jennings’ CD release: SOLIDARITY (November 12).

In an exclusive concert event, Jazz at Lincoln Center celebrates the 50th anniversary of ECM Records, the monumentally influential recording label that continues to set new directions in music and sound.

This fall, Jazz at Lincoln Center will welcome beloved Sesame Street characters Elmo, Abby, Big Bird, Grover, Oscar the Grouch, Rosita, Bert& Ernie, The Count, and Hoots the Owl to sing classic Sesame Street songs such as “Sing,” “People in Your Neighborhood,” “Rubber Duckie,” and “Sunny Days” alongside the world-renowned Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis in Rose Theater.

Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Jazz For Young People concerts are some of the most engaging and fun afternoon concerts in the city, designed to entertain and inspire family audiences. September marks the tenth anniversary of Dizzy’s Club’s Generations in Jazz Festival,featuring exemplary artists across generations in 29 unique programs over 30 nights. The festival kicks off on September 2 with Ruben Fox presents Ellingtonia featuring Joy Brown, Samara Joy and Vuyo Sotashe, and closes out on October 1 with two Flip Side Sessions – Mathis Sound Orchestra (7:30 p.m.) and Endea Owens and the Cookout (9:30 p.m.)

In past concerts that have been described by the New York Times as being “soulful,” “evocative,” and “playing directly to the band’s strengths,” the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis performed original compositions inspired by masters of modern art including Romare Bearden, Stuart Davis, Sam Gilliam, Winslow Homer, Wifredo Lam, Norman Lewis and Piet Mondrian. On August 2, 2019, Blue Engine Records will release the studio recordings of these charts on a new album entitled Jazz and Art.
