Betty Carter’s The Music Never Stops Coming To Special Edition Vinyl

Critically Acclaimed Blue Engine Album to Get Vinyl Treatment on May 17, Celebrating Carter’s 90th Birthday

After recently releasing CD and digital editions of The Music Never Stops, a historical 1992 performance recorded by Better Carter during one of Jazz at Lincoln Center’s earliest concert seasons, Blue Engine Records is proud to announce the special-edition, 180-gram, double-LP vinyl release of the album. The album will be available on vinyl on May 17, a day after what would have been the late Carter’s 90th birthday.

Danny Barker: A New Orleans Life in Jazz, May 31–June 1

New Orleans jazz all-stars bring the Big Easy to the Big Apple in Jazz at Lincoln Center’s The Appel Room, May 31–June 1, to celebrate the legacy of their mentor Danny Barker. Music director Dr. Michael White, a virtuoso on clarinet and an essential voice in New Orleans jazz, leads a band featuring vocalist Catherine Russell, master trombonist Lucien Barbarin, trumpet legend Gregg Stafford, drummer Shannon Powell (also known as the “King of Treme”), original Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra drummer Herlin Riley, and trumpeter Leroy Jones, who Wynton says “was the best of all of us.” Guitarist and banjoist Don Vappie plays the role of “Mr. Barker,” as the musicians still call him. The show also features bassist/tuba player Philip Norris, a talented young musician from The Juilliard School who has already performed with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.

Some of the best young musicians on the jazz scene take the stage with Wynton Marsalis, Rodney Whitaker, Wycliffe Gordon, and Dan Block to perform the music of Duke Ellington, some of the most complex music ever written, in Ellington Through the Ages. This special concert event will take place in Rose Theater at Frederick P. Rose Hall, on May 3–4, 2019, at 8:00 p.m. Frederick P. Rose Hall, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center, is located on Broadway at 60th Street in New York City.

Michael Feinstein returns with the ninth consecutive Jazz & Popular Song series in the Appel Room

Jazz at Lincoln Center’s fan-favorite concert series, Jazz & Popular Song series now in its ninth consecutive season, returns with three unique concerts in April through June, led by Michael Feinstein, also known as the “Ambassador of the Great American Songbook”– Caught Between the Moon and New York City: Songs of Peter Allen (April 10-11), Great American Crooners (May 15-16), and I Could Have Danced All Night: The Lerner & Loewe Songbook (June 5-6). With a roster of special guest vocalists and ensembles led by music director Tedd Firth, Feinstein’s shows invoke the charm and glamour of great Hollywood and Broadway classics.
