(February 13, 2019 at 3pm) Jazz at Lincoln Center today announced the 15 finalists who will compete in its 24th Annual Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition & Festival–the nation’s premier jazz education event–in New York City on May 9-11, 2019. The competition unites students from coast to coast, and from diverse backgrounds to find harmony together while playing some of the most complex music ever written.

Jazz at Lincoln Center announces two additional shows in its three-part salute to Miles Davis during the 2018-19 season: Family Concert: Who is Miles Davis?, March 23 at 1pm and 3pm; and Marcus Miller: Electric Miles, March 29–30 at 8pm.

The Dizzy’s Club stage showcases the diversity of burgeoning jazz talent today, ranging from students at premier institutions of all ages, women breaking boundaries, to international jazz leaders.

On March 15-16, at 7 and 9:30pm, six of the fastest-rising stars in jazz will join forces for the first time in Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Appel Room to kick off Monterey Jazz Festival’s 60th Anniversary Tour. This celebratory performance will feature musicians who are outstanding representatives of the next generation of jazz artists and educators and have close ties to the Monterey Jazz Festival and with Jazz at Lincoln Center.

Jazz at Lincoln Center presents the world premiere of Kurt Elling’s The Big Blind, March 1-2 at 8pm in Rose Theater. The Grammy-winning vocalist delves into the world of musical theater with this original noir radio drama, co-written with Grammy-nominated songwriter Phil Galdston and inspired by true historic events.
