LEGENDARY GRAMMY AWARD-NOMINATED PIANIST AND COMPOSER MONTY ALEXANDER PERFORMS A CAREER RETROSPECTIVE ACROSS MUSICAL STYLES, INCLUDING SWING, MENTO, SKA, REGGAE, AND MORE

In celebration of his milestone 80th birthday, Grammy Award-nominated Jamaican American pianist Monty Alexander reflects on his remarkable life and career in a special concert event at Jazz at Lincoln Center. On Friday, Jan. 24, and Saturday, Jan. 25 at 7:30 p.m. in Rose Theater, Alexander will take the audience on a musical journey through a series of vignettes, showcasing his mastery of diverse styles, including swing, mento, ska, reggae, and more. Jazz at Lincoln Center is located on Broadway at 60th St., in New York, NY.

Showcasing his illustrious career, which spans decades, Alexander will be joined by an internationally acclaimed lineup of musicians, including Quentin Baxter, drums; T.K. Blue, alto saxophone; Jason Brown, drums; James Cammack, bass; Wayne Escoffery, tenor saxophone; Dominick Farinacci, trumpet; Andrae Murchison, trombone; Randy Napoleon, guitar; Steve Nelson, vibraphone; Victor Provost, steel drums; Luke Sellick, bass; Hassan Shakur, bass; Herlin Riley, drums; Robert Thomas Jr., hand drums; Courtney Panton, percussion; Justin Poindexter, guitar; Joshua Thomas, guitar; Jr. Wedderburn, percussion; Karl Wright, drums and percussion. Together, they will celebrate Alexander’s remarkable achievements–including being honored in 2022 with the Order of Jamaica for his sterling contributions to the promotion of Jamaican music and jazz genre interpretations globally– and Alexander’s exceptional contributions to music.

The leitmotif of Jazz at Lincoln Center’s 2024-25 season celebrates integration. Through the Monty Alexander concert, the organization acknowledges and honors the diverse backgrounds of the brilliant master practitioners who established and developed the sound of jazz from its origins to the present day. The net effect is a testimony to the power of jazz to illuminate the multiracial democratic ideals of America, bridging generational, ethnic, and cultural divides.

Tickets for Monty Alexander performances are available on jazz.org, by phone, and in person at the box office. *Please note that a $5.00 Jazz at Lincoln Center Facility Fee applies to all ticket purchases, except for $10 Hot Seats. A $7 handling fee also applies when purchasing tickets from CenterCharge or when purchasing tickets online via jazz.org.

All single tickets to Rose Theater concerts can be purchased through jazz.org 24 hours a day or through CenterCharge at 212-721-6500, open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tickets can also be purchased at the Jazz at Lincoln Center Box Office, located on Broadway at 60th Street, Ground Floor.

Tuesday-Sunday: 10:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m. (or 30 minutes past curtain)
On Wednesdays, prior to a Rose theater concert, the Box Office will open at 10 a.m.
