RUSSELL MALONE MUSICAL CELEBRATION AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER: RON CARTER, KENNY BARRON, DIANA KRALL, CHRISTIAN MCBRIDE, TAMMY MCCANN & MORE PAY HOMAGE TO LATE GUITARIST

As part of 2025 Jazz Congress, concert takes place in Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Appel Room  Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025, at 5:45 p.m.

(December 11, 2024) —  

Guitarist Russell Malone, who passed away at the age of 60 on Aug. 23, 2024, will be honored with a musical tribute on Wednesday, Jan. 8, at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall on Broadway at 60th Street, New York, N.Y. beginning at 5:45 p.m.

The concert to celebrate Malone, who was known for “a distinctive style that was precise and spare but at the same time warm and luscious” (New York Times), will take place in the Appel Room as part of the 2025 Jazz Congress conference.

The lineup of Malone’s fellow musicians, friends, and colleagues scheduled to perform include Ron Carter, Kenny Barron, Diana Krall, Monty Alexander Trio, John Clayton, Benny Green, Christian McBride, Ben Wolfe, Donald Vega, Ed Cherry, Dave Stryker, Yotam Silberstein, Willie Jones III, Tammy McCann, Rick Germanson, Vincent DuPont, Neal Smith, and T.K. Blue.

This celebration is open to 2025 Jazz Congress attendees on a first come first serve basis.

Jazz Congress was founded in 2018, originally as a partnership with JazzTimes who in the past had produced or co-produced numerous jazz gatherings such as the JazzTimes Convention, the IAJE industry track and the Jazz Connect Conference. Since that time, Jazz at Lincoln Center has brought considerable experience and resources to present an industry gathering that not only drew upon the past, but also pointed toward the future. Over the years, Jazz Congress has brought together jazz artists and industry professionals from all over the world.
