Steve Miller with Marty Stuart: Music from Appalachia

New York, NY
(November 01, 2018) —

On December 7-8 at 8pm, renowned blues-rock guitarist, multi-platinum-selling singer/songwriter, and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Steve Miller will return to Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Rose Theater to continue his exploration of the blues. For the first time, Miller will welcome guitarist, mandolinist, vocalist, and American music icon Marty Stuart as co-host. Stuart was one of Johnny Cash’s late musical cohorts, and he is a chart-topping songwriter and producer, host of TV’s The Marty Stuart Show, and the winner of multiple GRAMMY® Awards, Country Music Awards, International Bluegrass Music Awards, and the Americana Music Honors Lifetime Achievement Award. On these special evenings, Miller will play alongside Stuart’s band, Marty Stuart and his Fabulous Superlatives, which was named 2017 Group of the Year by the Americana Music Honors and Awards.

Having learned his first chords at age five from his godfather Les Paul, how to play lead guitar from T-Bone Walker at age nine, and then working with the best bluesmen in Chicago—Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Buddy Guy, James Cotton, and Otis Rush—Miller has a serious affinity for the blues. Each season he works with Jazz at Lincoln Center to present and expand upon one of the genre’s many unique flavors. This year, Miller and Marty Stuart and his Fabulous Superlatives will dig deep into classic Appalachian blues and bluegrass styles.

Steve Miller with Marty Stuart: Music from Appalachia will take place in Frederick P. Rose Hall, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center, located on Broadway at 60th Street in New York City. A free pre-concert discussion will take place nightly at 7pm, facilitated by Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Director of Public Programs and Education Resources, Seton Hawkins.
