Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Free (and almost free) Performances, Cultural and Education Events, October and November 2018

Throughout October and November, Jazz at Lincoln Center offers discounted tickets to some of the most anticipated concerts in Rose Theater and The Appel Room, and an extensive range of free cultural events for all ages, including Family Concerts. All year round, Jazz at Lincoln Center offers special pricing for students.

Free events include pre-concert discussions led by musicologists and scholars as they discuss an artist’s music and legacy, taking an in-depth look at their contributions to the genre.

PRE-CONCERT DISCUSSION: JOEY ALEXANDER WITH STRINGS
October 19—20 at 7pm

Jazz at Lincoln Center’s hour-long pre-concert discussions are led by musicologists and scholars as they discuss the featured artist’s music and legacy, taking an in-depth look at their contributions to the genre. As a precursor to the Joey Alexander with Strings concert, this pre-discussion looks at the music and career of pianist and wunderkind Joey Alexander.

SPECIAL PRE-CONCERT DISCUSSION: MONK’S FASHION
October 25—27 at 7pm

To celebrate Jazz at Lincoln Center’s fourth annual Monk Festival, a special pre-performance lecture series will explore Thelonious Monk’s fashion style with guest panelists. Items including Monk’s iconic hats and clothing will be presented for the public during the Monk Festival.

PRE-CONCERT DISCUSSION: MONK’S DREAM

This pre-discussion provides background to the Monk’s Dream concert of Jazz at Lincoln Center’s fourth annual Monk Festival.

FAMILY CONCERT: WHO IS JOE WILLIAMS?
November 3 at 1pm & 3pm

Rose Theater at Jazz at Lincoln Center
The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and vocalist Milton Suggs celebrate the life and music of Joe Williams, the dynamic baritone whose legendary voice and powerful sense of swing helped define the sound of the Count Basie Orchestra. Come stomp the blues away with a rollicking program of well-loved hits.
Cost: Tickets start at &10 and are required for this event.

PRE-CONCERT DISCUSSION: THE JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER ORCHESTRA PLAYS MILES DAVIS
November 9—10 at 7pm

As a precursor to The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra Plays Miles Davis concert, this pre-discussion looks at the groundbreaking music of Miles Davis.
Cost: Free; no registration or tickets required.

Hot Seats, $10 tickets for select Rose Theater and The Appel Room performances, are released for sale on the Wednesday prior to the performance. All Hot Seats are available for purchase in person only at the Jazz at Lincoln Center Box Office. Maximum of two tickets per person; subject to availability.
