JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER ORCHESTRA RECRUITMENT

JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER ORCHESTRA RECRUITMENT

New York, NY
(August 15, 2016) —

Jazz at Lincoln Center has a long history of inclusion.  As an organization committed to enriching lives and educating all age groups, races and genders around the world about jazz, we believe in diversity, community and transparency.  This is at the core of who we are and is reflected in the cultural, racial and gender make up of our staff, artists, education partners and board members.

The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra is a very special and world-renowned band comprised of just 15 members.  Requirements for our band members go far beyond pure performance and include improvisation, playing in all styles of jazz across its many diverse historical periods, arranging, and teaching.

Recently, Jazz at Lincoln Center has been working with advocates for diversity and inclusiveness to achieve our shared goals of diversity, community and transparency in the Orchestra.

With this as a guide, Jazz at Lincoln Center is announcing that it is adopting a comprehensive selection procedure for new, regular members of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.  These selection procedures include extensive posting of open positions, outreach to attract a diverse group of applicants for each opening, blind applications, and screened initial auditions.  Jazz at Lincoln Center is also adopting a substitute roster for musicians to cover absences among the regular members of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, and its new selection procedures also provide a process for selecting new members of the substitute roster.  The new selection procedures are available on Jazz at Lincoln Center’s website, http://www.jazz.org/y28z77j/.
