Jazz at Lincoln Center’s 2016 Gala, entitled Jazz and Broadway, will celebrate the music of Broadway and the profound influence jazz has had on The Great White Way throughout history. The organization’s one-night benefit performance and dinner – one of the most highly regarded social events in the city – will take place on Monday, May 9, 2016 at 7pm at Frederick P. Rose Hall, the “House of Swing,” located at Broadway at 60th Street, New York, New York.
Jazz and Broadway will be hosted by iconic stage and screen artist Vanessa Williams, and anchored by the exceptional Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis. This special concert event will feature an all-star roster of music and dance including Chris Botti, Aaron Diehl, Christine Ebersole, Raul Esparza, LaChanze, Norm Lewis, Marilyn Maye, Cécile McLorin Salvant, Chita Rivera, Denzal Sinclaire, Tommy Tune, Daniel Ulbricht, dancers from “Shuffle Along” and more, paying homage to Broadway’s composers past and present.
The 2016 gala concert will be directed by Emmy nominated Robert Pullen and choreographed by Christopher D’Amboise. Tony award nominated Broadway veteran Terrance Mann serves as Consultant.
Jazz at Lincoln Center will present the Ed Bradley Award for Leadership in Jazz to Jazz at Lincoln Center Board Member Diana DiMenna, and her husband, hedge fund manager Joe DiMenna. The award, named in honor of CBS News correspondent and original Jazz at Lincoln Center board member Ed Bradley, celebrates the integrity, wisdom and pioneering spirit of outstanding leaders and is Jazz at Lincoln Center’s most distinguished award.
The organization will also bestow the inaugural Award for Excellence to Ahmad Jamal in recognition of the NEA Jazz Master’s influential career.
Proceeds from the 2016 Gala will help to enable the diverse education programs and resources produced by Jazz at Lincoln Center each year. Through its concerts, free webcasts, direct musical instruction, and distribution of scores, Jazz at Lincoln Center reaches more than one million people around the world, of all ages. The organization employs more than 1660 artists per year on its bandstands and in its classrooms.
