Jazz at Lincoln Center presents a double bill featuring Christian McBride Big Band and Henry Butler, Steven Bernstein & The Hot 9 on February 26-27, 2016 at 8pm in Rose Theater, located in Frederick P. Rose Hall, Broadway at 60th Street, New York. Featuring an impressive and diverse lineup of top musicians in each ensemble, McBride, Butler and Bernstein will show off their talents as composers, arrangers, soloists and bandleaders as they explore American song.
The concert is headlined by GRAMMY® Award-winning bassist Christian McBride, who first composed for big band in 1995 as a commission for the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. The master musician has since appeared on over 300 recordings and is considered one of the most accomplished bassists alive. Now a leader of his own GRAMMY® Award-winning Big Band, McBride will showcase his unmatched ability to drive a band from behind the bass.
McBride is preceded by Henry Butler, Steven Bernstein & The Hot 9, featuring New Orleans piano virtuoso Henry Butler and multi-Downbeat Critics Poll Winner in the Arranger category Steven Bernstein. Described by The New York Times as “both historically aware and fully prepared to cut loose,” Butler, Berstein and The Hot 9 infuse the hot jazz of years past with the endless possibilities of the modern jazz landscape.
