Jazz at Lincoln Center Announces The Mica and Ahmet Ertegun Atrium in the Newly Redesigned Frederick P. Rose Hall

JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER ANNOUNCES
THE MICA AND AHMET ERTEGUN ATRIUM
IN THE NEWLY REDESIGNED FREDERICK P. ROSE HALL

New York, NY
(December 14, 2015) —

As part of a multimillion-dollar redesign, Jazz at Lincoln Center announces its exciting public gathering space, the Mica and Ahmet Ertegun Atrium, in recognition of their philanthropic and visionary contributions.

The new Mica and Ahmet Ertegun Atrium is a striking and elegant public space set against a backdrop of sweeping views of Central Park and the Manhattan skyline. The Atrium features state of the art technological amenities including exceptional acoustics for public presentations and community events.

“We are proud to dedicate the redesigned Atrium to Mica and Ahmet Ertegun whose generous lead gift to Jazz at Lincoln Center made this redesign project possible,” said Wynton Marsalis, Managing and Artistic Director, Jazz at Lincoln Center. “Ahmet was one of our founding board members, and Mica has carried on in his spirit.”

The Mica and Ahmet Ertegun Atrium embodies these new and unique features:

  • A 26 ft. video wall with exceptional acoustical properties for high quality presentations
  • A raised stage along the windows facing Central Park will feature jazz ensembles and enable café-style seating
  • Installation of the glass Engelberg Grand Staircase, providing connectivity between floors

The redesign of the public spaces in Frederick P. Rose Hall began in 2013. Mica Ertegun, one of the world’s pre-eminent designers, has worked closely with Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Frederick P. Rose Hall Executive Committee and Ennead Architects, led by partners Richard Olcott and Molly McGowan. Funding was provided by a lead gift by Mica Ertegun along with long-standing Jazz at Lincoln Center supporters the Ford Foundation, and the City of New York.

Jazz at Lincoln Center audiences will experience the new Ertegun Atrium for the first time on December 17, 2015 at a special Holiday Concert featuring the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis.

Jazz at Lincoln Center proudly acknowledges its major corporate partners: Amtrak, Bloomberg, Brooks Brothers, The Coca-Cola Company, Con Edison, Entergy, HSBC Premier, Sirius XM, Steinway, The Shops at Columbus Circle at Time Warner Center, and United Airlines.
