Celebrating the release of Live in Cuba,
the debut album of Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Blue Engine Records
New York, NY– updated August 10, 2015– Jazz at Lincoln Center, dedicated to entertaining, enriching and expanding a global community for jazz through performance, education and advocacy, announced today, From Havana to the Hamptons. This special event, hosted by Co-Chairs Greg Ammon and Valentino D. Carlotti, will be held on August 14, 2015 in East Hampton, NY. Critically-acclaimed, Cuban musicians Pedrito Martinez and Jose “Pepito” Gomez will perform, bringing the sounds of Cuba to the East End.
The event also celebrates the organization’s first album release Live in Cuba, on the newly formed Blue Engine Records– a new initiative by Jazz at Lincoln Center to release studio and live recordings, as well as archival recordings from Jazz at Lincoln Center’s performance history that date back to 1987 and are part of the R. Theodore Ammon Archives and Music Library.
“I am thrilled to co-host an event celebrating the release of the first album from Jazz at Lincoln Center’s archive and music library, named in honor of my father. This event also allows us to introduce new friends to jazz in support of the incredible performances and education programs produced by Jazz at Lincoln Center each year,” said Co-Chair Greg Ammon.
Live in Cuba captures the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis performing for sold-out crowds over three nights at the historic Mella Theater in Havana, Cuba in October 2010. The album is set to be released on August 21, 2015, and guests at From Havana to the Hamptons will receive an exclusive digital download of Live in Cuba.
“Jazz at Lincoln Center will bring the sounds of the bolero, bebop and beyond to this event, as we explore the profound connections between American jazz and Afro-Cuban music at an auspicious moment in our history,” said Co-Chair and Jazz at Lincoln Center Board member Valentino D. Carlotti. “I look forward to joining forces on this very special evening with Greg Ammon, the Rhythm Club, and Swing! Committee to celebrate the release of Live in Cuba in East Hampton.”
East Hampton’s Big Flower will showcase bespoke pocket squares in its custom Big Flower vintage car, while on-site cigar rollers will craft freshly-rolled cigars finished with a custom-designed Havana to the Hamptons cigar band. Signature cocktails will be provided by Hennessy, the number one selling Cognac brand in the world.
The event is also co-hosted by Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Rhythm Club and Swing! Committee. Rhythm Club is a membership program that provides curated and unique experiences for young patrons. The Swing! Committee is committed to actively engaging a younger, more diverse audience with jazz.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the thousands of performance and education programs the organization produces every year. More than two-thirds of Jazz at Lincoln Center’s programming is educational—reaching over 1,000,000 individuals of all ages and experiences in all 50 states and internationally, through concerts, webcasting, direct musical instruction and distribution of music scores free of charge.
Attire for Havana to the Hamptons is summer chic. Ticket prices range from $125 (cocktail party); $200 (cocktail party with exclusive digital download and album); $1,000 (cocktail party, concert, VIP seated dinner, exclusive digital download and album).
