The members of the Brubeck Institute Jazz Quintet (BIJQ) have won numerous DownBeat Student Music Awards for Best Collegiate Jazz Group in the country. Touring regularly throughout the United States, the 2014-2015 BIJQ members are vibraphonist/pianist Joel Ross, saxophonist Lucas Bere, guitarist Sean Britt, bassist Sarah Kuo, and drummer Jalon Archie. The quintet will be joined by special guests saxophonist Lucas Pino and pianist Glenn Zaleski.

Organized in 1962 and based in San Antonio, Texas, this ensemble is renowned worldwide for playing the classic jazz associated with King Oliver, Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, and Bix Beiderbecke, as well as music by great American composers such as Duke Ellington, Hoagy Carmichael, George Gershwin, and Irving Berlin. Band leader Jim Cullum is a jazz cornetist who has been active for over 50 years. The band has performed at Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, Wolf Trap, Austin City Limits, and festivals and concerts across the U.S., Latin America, Australia, and Europe. They are joined by special guests for this three-night run at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola

The SUNY Purchase Jazz Orchestra (PJO) is a 17-piece big band comprised of talented students from the Conservatory of Music’s jazz studies program. Performing jazz from every era, from staples like Ellington and Basie to leading contemporary composers like McNeely, Clayton, Abene, and Schneider, the PJO always swings. Jon Faddis, the legendary protégé of Dizzy Gillespie, joins the orchestra as a guest artist. Steve Turre, one of the world’s preeminent jazz innovators, trombonist and seashellist, joins as special guest.

Jackie McLean was a man of high principles and someone with an uncompromising love for the American art form known as jazz. The Jackie McLean Institute jazz ensembles (of the University of Hartford) are instructed by widely recognized jazz artists Javon Jackson, Steve Davis, René McLean, Nat Reeves, Abraham Burton, and Chris Casey. Students work closely with accomplished faculty members through individual mentorship toward success as a professional jazz performer. Through performance, these talented students explore the rich history of ever-evolving jazz styles and learn the full spectrum of skills necessary for a career in jazz.

Jorge Luis Pacheco Campos Quartet
Jorge Luis Pacheco is a Cuban pianist, percussionist, composer and musical director who has shared the stage with renowned musicians such as Wynton Marsalis, Leo Brower, Chucho Valdés, Bobby Carcasses, Joaquín Betancourt, and Stanley Clark among others. He composes works for solo piano, string orchestras, percussion and piano concertos as well as symphony orchestras. In October 2010, he was invited by the Marsalis and Valdés to guest star with the Jazz Orchestra at Lincoln Center in New York during their presentations at the Mella Theater of Havana, receiving rave reviews from audiences and press. He has participated in festivals in Cuba, Germany, United States, Italy, Brazil, Canada and Switzerland. He is joined by trio mates David Faya Cordova on bass, Reinier Guerra on drums and Otto Santana Selis on congas for his Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola debut.

Luis Salinas: Music of the Americas
Luis Salinas is an Argentine jazz guitarist who plays both electric and nylon string guitars. His music includes elements of bossa nova, samba, salsa, boleros and jazz and blends traditional South American musical forms with improvisational modern jazz. Salinas was signed by the GRP Records in 1995, and recorded his debut album Salinas for that label in March 1996 with various musicians from George Benson’s group. He has played to large audiences in his native Argentina, as well as festivals throughout Latin America and Europe, including the 30th edition of the Montreux Jazz Festival. For his Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola debut, he is joined by pianist Axel Laugart, bassist John Benitez, and percussionist/drummer Archie Peña.

Stafford’s band credits include McCoy Tyner, Benny Golson, Jimmy Heath, and the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, and his experience as an educator is just as extensive.

Hailed by The New York Times for his “huge, authoritative presence,” pianist Gerald Clayton is well on his way toward establishing himself as one of the most important voices of his generation in the long and rich tradition of jazz.
