Caramoor Announces Programming Collaboration
with Jazz at Lincoln Center,
Beginning with Caramoor Jazz Festival on July 18

New York, NY
(March 25, 2015) —

Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts is delighted to announce an inspiring new collaboration with Jazz at Lincoln Center, led by Managing and Artistic Director Wynton Marsalis. Jazz at Lincoln Center programming will provide audiences the chance to hear world-class jazz from one of the nation’s foremost cultural institutions in Caramoor’s idyllic setting. This new programming collaboration will launch at the 22nd annual Caramoor Jazz Festival (July 18), and will feature events and performances for jazz enthusiasts of all ages, culminating in a performance by the celebrated Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis. As in previous seasons, the festival will take place throughout the historic Caramoor estate: 90 acres of picturesque Italianate architecture and gardens in Katonah, NY, just an hour’s drive from Manhattan, and an oasis for jazz aficionados and newcomers alike. As Jazz Times puts it, “You really couldn’t come up with a prettier setting for a jazz festival. … Caramoor is a perfect day trip for city slickers who want to hear some of the most prominent jazz artists of the day without going very far to do so.”
Jeffrey Haydon, Caramoor’s CEO says, “We’re proud to build on our 21-year history of the Caramoor Jazz Festival by collaborating with Jazz at Lincoln Center. Caramoor offers aficionados and families a beautiful setting to explore the vibrant world of jazz.”

“Jazz has been included in Caramoor’s season programming since 1988, beginning with performances by the great Ray Brown and later by the Count Basie and Duke Ellington bands. Since then, the festival stages have featured living legends of the music as well as its rising stars,” said Cat Henry, Vice President of Concerts and Touring, Jazz at Lincoln Center. “Jazz at Lincoln Center looks forward to programming world-class jazz events for all ages in Caramoor’s beautiful, unmatched outdoor setting, in addition to reaching new audiences in the Caramoor community.”

The mission of Jazz at Lincoln Center is to entertain, enrich and expand a global community for jazz through performance, education and advocacy. With the world-renowned Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and guest artists spanning genres and generations, Jazz at Lincoln Center produces thousands of performance, education, and broadcast events each season in its home in New York City (Frederick P. Rose Hall, “The House of Swing”) and around the world, for people of all ages. Now in its 27th year, Jazz at Lincoln Center is led by Chairman Robert J. Appel, Managing and Artistic Director Wynton Marsalis, and Executive Director Greg Scholl. In recent years alone, Caramoor’s exquisite setting and laid-back charm have attracted such performers as Chick Corea, Bill Frisell, Jason Moran, McCoy Tyner, Roy Haynes, Vijay Iyer, Dr. John, Christian McBride, Robert Glasper, and Paquito D’Rivera.
