BILL FRISELL’S ROOTS OF AMERICANA SERIES RETURNS
When You Wish Upon A Star:
Music From Film & Television

Featuring Frisell with violist Eyvind Kang, bassist Thomas Morgan, drummer Rudy Royston, and singer/violinist Petra Haden in Jazz at Lincoln Center’s The Appel Room on January 16–17

New York, NY
(December 05, 2014) —

Bill Frisell continues in his role as curator of Jazz at Lincoln Center’s beloved Roots of Americana series. This January, the guitar icon leads a quintet in When You Wish Upon a Star: Music From Film and Television, the second of three concerts in the Roots of Americana series during the 2014-15 season. The concerts take place on January 16 and 17 at 7pm & 9:30pm in The Appel Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall, Broadway at 60th Street, New York, New York.

With When You Wish Upon a Star, Frisell draws upon the sentimentality of music heard on screen and how it shapes and informs our emotional relationships to what we see. Frisell, whose own music has been featured in major motion pictures like Gus Van Sant’s “Finding Forrester” and Wim Wender’s “The Million Dollar Hotel” reflects: “Music is so rich with all the associations that go along with it, whether it’s the words or a memory you get when you hear it.” Violist Eyvind Kang, bassist Thomas Morgan, drummer Rudy Royston, and singer/violinist Petra Haden, who recently released her own musical ode to classic film, Petra Goes To The Movies, will join Frisell in re-imagining time-honored gems like “When You Wish Upon a Star,” “Alfie,” and “Moon River.”. Each performance will be webcast live on jalc.org/live.

Jazz at Lincoln Center’s 2014–15 Concert and Education Season features a season-long journey “through the Americas.” Through a diverse array of concerts and programs, Jazz at Lincoln Center’s 27th season will explore how jazz has both integrated and influenced the rich musical traditions of the Caribbean and North, South, and Central America.
