Bucky Pizzarelli Quartet
Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola gets July started with legendary guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli, whose mastery of the seven-string guitar is revered. Over the course of a seven-decade career, Pizzarelli has performed with numerous stars, from Benny Goodman and Les Paul, to Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, and Peggy Lee. Don’t miss this chance to catch a living legend in action.

Craig Handy 2nd Line Slim
Saxophonist Craig Handy began his career performing with jazz masters such as Art Blakey, Roy Haynes, Abdullah Ibrahim, and the Mingus Dynasty Band. By his late 20s, Handy was already known for his technical mastery and prodigious post-bop talent, as well as the versatility demonstrated by performing with vocalists like Betty Carter and Dee Dee Bridgewater. Handy has since toured and performed with numerous jazz masters, including Herbie Hancock, Cedar Walton, Wynton Marsalis, and The Cookers. Handy now leads a new project entitled Craig Handy & 2nd Line Slim, drawing on New Orleans music and the groove-filled re-imaginings of originals and standards by the late, great organist Jimmy Smith.

Russell Malone
A tireless collaborator with a long list of stellar performing credits, guitarist Russell Malone started out performing with organist Jimmy Smith and the Harry Connick, Jr. Big Band before becoming part of the GRAMMY® Award-winning Diana Krall trio. In between tours as leader of The Russell Malone Quartet and the Russell Malone Trio, Malone has also performed with such artists as Dianne Reeves, Romero Lubambo, Ron Carter, Bill Frisell, and Sonny Rollins.

Igor Butman and the Moscow Jazz Orchestra
Described by Downbeat magazine as “an outfit of virtuosos,” the 16-piece Moscow Jazz Orchestra is led by Russia’s most popular and esteemed jazzman, saxophonist Igor Butman. Butman is a firm proponent of cross-border and cross-genre collaborations with top artists, including Wynton Marsalis, Mike Stern, and Bill Evans. He has also had successful collaboration with the GRAMMY® Award-winning conductor, violinist, and violist Yuri Bashmet’s Moscow Soloists chamber orchestra. The Moscow Jazz Orchestra’s intensive schedule includes regular tours in the United States and prestigious jazz festivals in
Europe and Asia.

Joe Locke Featuring Vocalist Kenny Washington
Vibraphonist Joe Locke is widely considered to be one of the major voices on his instrument, having won numerous awards and polls, including the 2006, 2008, and 2009 “Mallet Player of the Year” award from the Jazz Journalists Association. Long known as a soloist capable of stunning physical power and broad emotional range, Locke has performed and recorded with many notable musicians, including Grover Washington Jr., Kenny Barron, Eddie Henderson, Cecil Taylor, Dianne Reeves, and Ron Carter. Locke’s quartet will be joined by vocalist Kenny Washington for this annual return to Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola.

Marion Cowings Vocal Master Class
Mentored by the legendary Jon Hendricks, jazz singer Marion Cowings is a master of scat and vocal technique. Together with long-time collaborator Kim Kalesti, Cowings has headlined jazz festivals and performed with such musicians as Clark Terry, Jimmy Heath, and Frank Foster. His former students include Harry Connick, Jr., Miles Griffith, and Roseanna Vitro. Cowings is now giving back by offering workshops to young professional singers. Catch his latest batch of students in the finale performance of a vocal master class at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola.

Marcus Belgrave Quintet with vocalist Joan Belgrave
Trumpeter Marcus Belgrave is Detroit’s official Jazz Master Laureate. Mentored by Ray Charles and Clifford Brown, Belgrave came to prominence in the late-1950s with Ray Charles’ original small band. Belgrave was at the vanguard of the modern jazz movement in the 1960s, performing and recording with innovators like Charles Mingus, Eric Dolphy, and Max Roach. An avid mentor, Belgrave believes in grooming the next generation of jazz musicians. His protégés include violinist Regina Carter, bassist Robert Hurst, and saxophonist Kenny Garrett.

Jon Faddis Quartet
Legendary trumpeter Jon Faddis, protégé of the great Dizzy Gillespie, celebrates his 61st birthday at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola. Known for having an extraordinary and virtually unparalleled range, Faddis has complete mastery over the trumpet. He evokes the voices of Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, Roy Eldridge, and of course, Gillespie, all while remaining true to his own. Faddis’s illustrious career has seen him perform with the best jazz musicians, including Lionel Hampton, Charles Mingus, and the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra.

Yotam Silberstein
Tel-Aviv-born guitarist Yotam Silberstein had already won the coveted “Israeli Jazz Player of The Year” title at the age of 21. Soon after, he performed at Italy’s renowned Umbria Jazz Festival, released a critically acclaimed debut album, and set out on an extensive tour of Europe and the Middle East. Upon receiving a scholarship to attend the New School in 2005, Silberstein moved to New York City and has since performed with such luminaries as James Moody, The Heath Brothers, and Paquito D’Rivera.

Tia Fuller Quartet
Described as “one of the finest new musicians on the scene” by AllAboutJazz and “a versatile, creative voice on alto saxophone, soprano, and flute” by legendary trumpeter Jon Faddis, Tia Fuller is a respected bandleader (and Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola regular) with four critically acclaimed albums to her name. As a saxophonist, she has performed with numerous bands, including the Ralph Peterson Septet, T.S. Monk Septet, and the Wycliffe Gordon Septet. Fuller is also part of pop icon Beyoncé’s touring all-female band.

Willie Jones III Sextet
Known for his distinct style of rhythmic expression, drummer Willie Jones III is one of the world’s top jazz drummers. As a leader, Jones has five critically acclaimed albums under his belt. As a sideman, he’s held long tenures in bands led by Roy Hargrove, Hank Jones and Cedar Walton. Jones’ repertoire will include hard bop selections, the Cedar Walton songbook and the debut of originals tunes.

Late Night Session
Scheduled at 11:30 every Tuesday through Saturday, Late Night Session features some of jazz’s most talented up and coming artists, with a special invited jam session. Hosted by vocalist Michael Mwenso, on Thursday and Saturday nights only.
