Uhadi: All-Stars of Johannesburg Jazz featuring Sibongile Khumalo
Celebrating 20 Years of Democracy in South Africa
For four nights, Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola welcomes to its stage six prominent contemporary musicians from Johannesburg. Featuring the incomparable Sibongile Khumalo, one of South Africa’s most celebrated and beloved vocal divas, Uhadi makes its U.S. debut and join us to celebrate the 20th anniversary of a democratic South Africa.
Saxophonist McCoy Mrubata serves as the group’s musical director, joined by trumpeter Feya Faku, pianist Paul Hanmer, bassist Herbie Tsoaeli, and drummer Justin Badenhorst. Uhadi’s residency is part of Jazz at Lincoln Center’s celebration of South African music, highlighted by ‘Hugh Masekela: Celebrating 75 Years’ on April 4 in Rose Theater.

Brubeck Brothers Quartet

Part of Jazz at Lincoln Center’s week-long Dave Brubeck Festival, which also features shows in Rose Theater and The Allen Room, Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola presents The Brubeck Brothers Quartet featuring Dan Brubeck on drums and Chris Brubeck on bass & trombone, two members of one of America’s most accomplished musical families. Guitarist Mike DeMicco and pianist Chuck Lamb complete this dynamic quartet.

Dave Brubeck Festival
Since 2010, Darius, Chris and Dan Brubeck have toured together, joined by Dave O’Higgins, in salute to their father Dave Brubeck’s legacy. They perform many of his most iconic hits, including “Take Five”, “Blue Rondo a la Turk” and “Unsquare Dance”, as well as original compositions by the brothers.

Brubeck Institute Jazz Quintet
Dave Brubeck Festival
The members of the Brubeck Institute Jazz Quintet (BIJQ) have won numerous DownBeat Student Music Awards for best collegiate jazz group in the country. Touring regularly throughout the United States, the 2013-2014 BIJQ members are Max Boiko, trumpet; Joel Ross, vibraphones; Sean Britt, guitar; Sarah Kuo, bass; and Jalon D’Mere Archie, drums. Special guests will include pianist Joe Gilman and saxophonist Patrick Langham on April 10 and vibraphonist Stefon Harris on April 12.

Clarinetist, saxophonist, and educator Victor Goines lights up Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola for four nights. He is joined by a formidable group of sidemen, including pianists Aaron Diehl (April 17, 18 and 20) and Chris Patishall (April 19), bassist Yasushi Nakamura and drummer Ulysses Owens.

The David Hazeltine Quartet
The man who the late Cedar Walton called one of “the brightest stars on the jazz piano horizon” stops by Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola. He is joined by Jim Rotondi (trumpet and flugelhorn), Billy Drummond (drums), and David Williams (bass).

Scheduled at 11:30 every Tuesday through Saturday, Late Night Session features some of jazz’s most talented up and coming artists, with a special invited jam session. Hosted by vocalist Michael Mwenso, on Thursday and Saturday nights only.
