In her first performance at Jazz at Lincoln Center since her 2003 concert in Alice Tully Hall, multi-GRAMMY® Award winning composer, arranger and bandleader Maria Schneider brings her critically acclaimed big band, the Maria Schneider Jazz Orchestra, to Jazz at Lincoln Center’s The Allen Room on March 14-15, at 7pm and 9:30pm ET. The eminent composer-arranger will present her 17-member collective, comprised of New York A-listers, to The Allen Room stage for the first time.
Schneider’s music has been hailed by critics as evocative, majestic, magical, heart-stoppingly gorgeous, and beyond categorization. Her album, Concert in the Garden (2004) became historic as the first recording to win a GRAMMY® with Internet-only sales. Even more significantly, it blazed the “fan-funding” trail as ArtistShare’s® first release. Concert in the Garden and Sky Blue (2007) were both named “Jazz Album of the Year” by the Jazz Journalists Association and DOWNBEAT Critics Poll. Her album Winter Morning Walks (2013) earned three GRAMMY® Awards including the prizes for classical composition and classical vocal solo album.
