Allen & Company Contributes Allen Room Naming Rights
To Support Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Fundraising Goals
New York, NY (December 4, 2013) – Allen & Company has contributed the naming rights to Jazz at Lincoln Center’s The Allen Room, one of three performance spaces in the organization’s home, Frederick P. Rose Hall. As the organization prepares to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Frederick P. Rose Hall in its 2014-15 season, Allen & Company’s innovative philanthropic approach is intended to encourage more charitable giving to jazz.
“Allen & Company’s extraordinary contributions enabled us to complete Frederick P. Rose Hall and were a landmark moment in Jazz at Lincoln Center’s history,” said Managing and Artistic Director, Wynton Marsalis. “Ten years later, through this same selfless generosity, Allen & Company is providing an important means of financial security for the next stage of our growth.”
In 2004, The Allen Room was named for Allen & Company. The space, which seats up to 550, is one of the world’s most iconic performing arts spaces. The Allen Room provides an informal and intimate setting, with views through a 50-foot-high glass wall overlooking Central Park. Recalling a Greek amphitheater, the space features tiered platforms ascending from the stage level to a dance floor with movable tables and chairs. The Allen Room has been the site of performances by the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, Taj Mahal, Audra McDonald, Willie Nelson, Lou Reed, Chucho Valdés; the location of television shows including “Ellen,” “Anderson Cooper,” and “Barbara Walters’ Oscar Special;” and the site of high profile events from the Time 100 gala to Lincoln Center’s American Songbook series.
