New York, NY – October 17, 2013 – On November 22 & 23, the Jim Hall Trio and Chris Potter’s Underground Orchestra open Jazz at Lincoln Center’s new A Side/B Side Series which spotlights two extraordinary contemporary artists over the course of one weekend in The Allen Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall, Broadway at 60th Street, New York, New York. Jim Hall: Modern Jazz Guitar takes place on November 22 at 7pm and on November 23 at 9:30pm. Chris Potter’s Underground Orchestra takes place on November 22 at 9:30pm and on November 23 at 7pm.
At 82, the universally influential guitarist Jim Hall, recently appointed Chevalier by France’s prestigious Order of Arts and Letters, remains committed to experimentation and boundary-breaking in this musical production. Hall performs with his exemplary trio (Scott Colley on bass and Lewis Nash on drums) and in two- or three-guitar configurations with Peter Bernstein and John Abercrombie, both distinguished acolytes from subsequent generations.
Protean saxophonist Chris Potter has been called “one of the most studied (and copied) saxophonists on the planet” by DownBeat magazine and “one of the best musicians around” by saxophone legend Dave Liebman. On this special evening, Potter will present an expanded version of his plugged-in Underground quartet with acoustic elements.
Each A Side / B Side event features two distinct performances, with one featured artist performing at 7pm, and a second featured artist performing at 9:30pm. These Jim Hall Trio and Chris Potter’s Underground Orchestra performances are presented by Mica and Ahmet Ertegun as part of the Ertegun Jazz Concert Series. Tickets are sold separately for A Side / B Side events. Ticket prices start at $55 for 7pm performances at $45 for 9:30pm performances.
