New York, NY – October 15, 2013 – Dynamic conductor, composer and pianist Damien Sneed leads two jazz and gospel events at Jazz at Lincoln Center: Jazz For Young People® Family Concert: Jazz Meets Gospel in Rose Theater on November 9 at 1pm & 3pm, and a free Gospel Listening Party in the Agnes Varis and Karl Leichtman Recording Studio on Friday, November 8, at 7 pm. All events take place at Jazz at Lincoln Center, Broadway at 60th St., New York, New York.
As part of Jazz at Lincoln Center’s perennially popular Jazz For Young People series, the Family Concert: Jazz Meets Gospel will explore the deep and soulful connections between these two iconic genres. The performances will feature Sneed, accompanied by a 13-piece ensemble and 8 vocalists, performing music of giants such as Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus, and Wynton Marsalis to demonstrate how the styles have been combined to create important works.
Ticket prices for Jazz For Young People start at $12. Tickets can be purchased through jazz.org 24 hours a day or CenterCharge at 212-721-6500, open daily from 10am to 9pm. Tickets can also be purchased at the Jazz at Lincoln Center Box Office, located on Broadway at 60th Street, ground floor. Box Office hours: Monday–Saturday from 10am to 6pm (or 30 minutes past curtain) and Sunday from noon to 6pm (or 30 minutes past curtain).
Jazz For Young People Family Concert: Jazz Meets Gospel will stream live in high-definition audio and video for free to a global audience via new.livestream.com/jazz. The concerts will also be available on Livestream’s mobile and connected TV applications with real-time DVR, chat, photos and other materials available for fans worldwide.
Damien Sneed has worked with a distinguished list of jazz and gospel greats including Wynton Marsalis, Wycliffe Gordon, Kim Burrell, Marvin Sapp and The Clark Sisters and has produced acclaimed musical works that blend the elements of jazz and gospel. He recently served as musical director of BET’s hit gospel singing competition television show, “Sunday Best” , and is featured in Jazz Academy, Jazz at Lincoln Center’s new tuition-free digital program launching this fall.
