4th Annual Generations in Jazz Festival
September 9 – October 8

New York, NY (July 30, 2013) Throughout September, Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola hosts an expansive roster of artists on its stage. Trio Da Paz and Friends, Joe Locke, Harry Allen, Maucha Adnet open the month, followed by a one-night-only performance by up and coming jazz pianist Konrad Paszkudzki.

The fourth annual Generations in Jazz Festival kicks off on September 9 as dynamic vocalists Michael Mwenso, Brianna Thomas, and Charenee Wade explore Romantic Moods for Lovers, followed by Drum Fest!, featuring rising stars of modern drums Bryan Carter and Joe Saylor. This year’s Generations in Jazz Festival, which runs through October 8, features extraordinary artists spanning generations, and programming honoring the iconic musicians of the past.

Louis Hayes, one of the most recorded drummers in the history of jazz, brings his Jazz Communicators to Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola for the first time, The Whitfield Family makes its club debut, and Trumpet Summit features multi generational trumpeters Greg Gisbert, Bruce Harris, and Brandon Lee.

On September 11, Generations in Jazz Festival features two distinct headliners: Milton Suggs Trio at 7:30pm and Charles Turner Trio at 9:30pm. Each pays tribute to his favorite vocalists, including Oscar Brown, Jr. and Joe Williams, and guests on each other’s sets.

Joe Sanders Quartet celebrates the birthday of the great Oscar Pettiford, and Marcus Strickland celebrates John Coltrane’s 87th birthday with a repertoire that includes “Naima,” and Coltrane’s famous arrangements of “My Favorite Things” and “Afro Blue.”

Programmed specifically for Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola’s Generations in Jazz Festival, HER. (In Honor Of): Honoring Remarkable Women in Jazz features Kim Thompson, Mimi Jones, Sarah Elizabeth Charles, Brandee Younger and Courtney Bryan honoring music’s trail blazing women including Dorothy Ashby and Betty Carter.
