BILL FRISELL’S ROOTS OF AMERICANA SERIES OPENS WITH
GERSHWIN & BEYOND

Jazz at Lincoln Center’s The Allen Room on September 20-21
New York, NY (July 31, 2013) Guitar icon Bill Frisell joins Jazz at Lincoln Center as curator of the organization’s new Roots of Americana Series. Throughout the series Frisell and an array of guest musicians explore the intersections of rock, country, jazz and blues. Gershwin & Beyond, the first of three concerts in the Roots of Americana series, takes place on September 20-21 at 7pm & 9:30pm in The Allen Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall, Broadway at 60th Street, New York, New York. This special concert event investigates the music of William Billings, Stephen Foster, and Charles Ives as well as traditional songs and Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess.
Joining Frisell on Gershwin & Beyond are three fellow master deconstructionists of American vernacular song: Vocalist-banjoist-guitarist-pianist-fiddler Sam Amidon, pianist-composer Jason Moran from the Bandwagon, and mezzo-soprano Alicia Hall Moran, who appeared in the Broadway production of “Porgy and Bess” in 2012.

Tickets for Gershwin & Beyond will be available on August 12. Ticket prices for The Allen Room start at $45.
