Returns to Jazz at Lincoln Center
with 12-piece Ensemble
Who/What/When:
Jazz at Lincoln Center (JALC) continues its 25th anniversary celebration with the return of the incomparable pianist Marcus Roberts in Rose Theater on October 12-13 at 8pm with his 12-piece ensemble. Roberts has an incredibly rich history with Jazz at Lincoln Center and has showcased his work here for decades. Since his first performance at JALC in 1987, he has been commissioned to compose new works, and has headlined concerts to honor piano legends George Gershwin, Fats Waller, Thelonious Monk, Earl Hines, Bud Powell and Jelly Roll Morton. He plays an integral role in this organization, and in this concert he revisits his unrecorded suite “Romance, Swing and the Blues,” which debuted at JALC in 1993 on the occasion of his 30th birthday. There is a free pre-concert discussion nightly at 7pm.
The ensemble includes Marcus Roberts, piano; Rodney Jones, bass; Jason Marsalis, drums; Marcus Printup, trumpet; Alphonse Horne, trumpet; Etienne Charles, trumpet; Tim Blackman, trumpet; Ron Westray, trombone; Joe Goldberg, clarinet; Stephen Riley, tenor saxophone; Ricardo Pascal, tenor and soprano saxophones; and Tissa Khosla, baritone saxophone.
Roberts explains, “I have had many varied and wonderful experiences playing at Jazz at Lincoln Center. The best part has always been the diversity of the programs that I have been able to put together. Also, the many young musicians who I have mentored have in many cases received their first opportunities on the JALC concert stage.” He continues, “It has been a great 25 years, a period of time that has shown me that jazz music is doing well and continues to flourish and grow. Its undeniable power is at the very essence of our American cultural identity, and we are blessed as a people to have such a profound art form with which to express our beliefs, ideas, and individual, and group perspectives. Let’s look forward to the next 25.”

Ticket prices are $10, $30, $50, $75, $95 or $120 dependent upon seating section.
Note: Hot Seats, $10 orchestra seats for each Rose Theater performance (excluding Jazz For Young People concerts), are available for purchase to the general public on the Wednesday of each performance week. Subject to availability. Hot Seats are available only by walk up at the Box Office, maximum of two per person.
